    Assignments

    Most of the assignments will be posted to Canvas and turned in to Canvas, the HMH textbook site, or to myself as specified by the assignment. Students are required to do all assignments and turn them in by their due dates. If a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to do and turn in the work they missed.

    Maps is an online testing tool used to measure the reading (Lexile) level of the student. This test is given 3 times a year with results expected to show student improvement as the year progresses. Students are expected to be present for testing and to do their best.

    Makeup Work

    Make-up work is an assignment/assessment given in class when a student is absent.  Arranging for completing and turning in make-up work/completing an assessment is the responsibility of the student.  Most of the assignments are found in Canvas and can be turned in when completed within 5 days of when the student returns to class without penalty. After 5 days, the assignment will be counted late, a letter grade of "M" will go in the gradebook, and points will be taken off on the assignment until the end of the quarter the work was assigned.  All makeup work must be made up within the quarter it was assigned. Please keep in mind that if a student is sitting in class for an assignment/test and refuses to complete the work on the due date, the grade is 0.

    Late Work Policy

    Students will earn an “M” (which counts as a zero) in infinite campus if the work is not turned in by the due date.

    Methods of Evaluation/Distribution of Grades

    Students will be evaluated on a variety of assignments designed to show improvement and mastery of the standards.

    60% Major Grades- Unit and Chapter Tests, Essays, Projects, Presentations, and Tasks

    40% Minor Grades- Short writings, quizzes, group discussions,

    Final grade per semester is 80% (major and minor) and 20% on the final exam

    A=90-100 B= 80-89 C= 75-79 D= 60-74 F= 59 and below

    Cell Phone Policy**

    Cell phone devices are not allowed to be visible in the classroom when instruction is taking place. The use of mobile devices on campus is a privilege that the school grants to students who are willing to assume the responsibilities outlined in the Richmond County Acceptable Use Policy and Procedures. The teacher reserves the right to allow cell phones to be used for scheduled class/educational purposes. If students are caught using their phones for non-educational purposes, they will be asked once to put it away. If they continue to be on their phone, The Discipline Policy will be followed, as outlined above. Students who continue to disrupt instruction will be removed from class by the administration. **Phone calls, Snapchat videos, recordings, etc., will not be tolerated and the student will be assigned detention.
