My name is Shatara Sims. I am happily married and have two great children. I received my undergraduate degree from Paine College, where I studied early childhood education, and my graduate degrees from Strayer University and Brenau University, both in education. I also have endorsements in math and reading, as well as one for talented and ESOL pupils. I was able to complete both the Governor's School Leadership Academy and the Teacher Leader Support Program for the 2020–2021 school year. My classroom was selected as the county's model fifth-grade mathematics classroom for the 2017–2019 school year. In the 2017–2018 school year, I was considered for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Education. I was chosen the A. Dorothy Hains Teacher of the Year for the 2019–2020 school year, as well as the Richmond County Teacher of the Year for 2020. Teaching is something I really enjoy doing. I am convinced that every child is a beautiful flower waiting to bloom and that each child deserves the best education possible. They simply need someone to provide them with water and nutrients so that they can achieve the greatest amount of success.
