  • The Richmond County School System (RCSS), located on the beautiful banks of the Savannah River, is one of the largest and most dynamic school systems in Georgia, serving nearly 30,000 students across 54 schools and programs. As the fifth-largest non-manufacturing employer in Richmond County, we recognize the vital role that each member of our team plays in supporting our students, families, and the broader community. Highlighted Positions

  • Special Education Teachers

    Our special education teachers drive student achievement by teaching and supporting students with disabilities. They also create individualized education plans (IEPs) and collaborate with other teachers on a daily basis. Applicants must have or are in the process of obtaining Georgia certification in special education.

  • Bus Drivers

    Bus drivers transport more than 10,000 students to our 56 schools and programs daily. Our drivers also take students to Marion E. Barnes Center classes, academic competitions, and athletic events. A Commercial Driver's License is required to operate a bus, and we provide free training to qualified candidates.

    Our four magnet schools topped state and national rankings in the 2023 U.S. News and World Report. In addition, Lake Forest Hills Elementary School and Freedom Park K-8 School earned a Best Elementary School and Best Middle School badge after ranking in the organization’s 2024 list for the state of Georgia. The annual list reviews thousands of schools across the nation. 

     

     

    • Distinction on Georgia’s AP Honor Schools List and 100+ AP Scholar Awards

    RCSS schools have earned distinctions on the Georgia Department of Education’s Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools list every year for the past ten years. In addition, more than 100 students from across our school system were named AP Scholars during the 2023-2024 school year based on their AP exam scores and GPA.  

     

     

    • Six RCSS Schools Named “Literacy Leaders”  

     

    Six schools in the Richmond County School System (RCSS) were named "Literacy Leaders" by the Georgia Department of Education for exceptional achievement or growth in reading. Schools qualified for the distinction based on components of their Georgia Milestones English Language Arts (ELA) assessment scores.    

     

     

    • Historic Improvements to Graduation Rate

     

    Class of 2024 graduation rates continued a two-year trend of growth. More than 1,690 students graduated during the 2023-2024 school year, a 3.7% increase from the previous year that brings the four-year cohort graduation rate to 81.7%. Four schools exceeded the state graduation rate. 

     

     

    • Title I Distinguished and Reward Schools 

     

    C.T. Walker Traditional Magnet School and A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School were named Distinguished Schools, and Richmond County Technical Career Magnet School (RCTCM) was named both a Distinguished and a Reward school in 2023. They are among the highest-performing 5% of Schoolwide and Targeted Assistance schools based on the combined English Language Arts (ELA) and math content mastery scores from statewide assessments taken during the 2022-23 school year.    

     

     

    • CTAE Graduation Rate Surpasses State  

     

    The RCSS graduation rate in Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE), Advanced Academic, World Language, and Fine Arts pathways surpassed the state-wide rate at 97.99% during the 2023-2024 school year.
