Course Description
This course provides an overview of all phases of business, including ownership, marketing, personnel, finance, managerial controls, and the relationship between government and business. Topics include the relationship of business to the social and economic environment in which it operates and practical orientation and emphasis on relationships between business concepts and potential business careers.
Course Goals
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the role of business as it relates to the economy and society at large.
- Differentiate between the common forms of legal business ownership and how they affect owner(s) liability.
- Judge the importance of small business and entrepreneurship.
- Recognize the different leadership styles, qualities, and traits of business managers.
- Classify the methods businesses use to structure their physical layouts and processes.
- Determine how businesses create value while communicating and maintaining relationships with consumers.
- Demonstrate the techniques companies use to report financial information for internal and external purposes.
- Predict how the evolution of technology can potentially transform business operations.
- Apply strategies for fostering teamwork and motivating employees.
- Evaluate economic conditions that impact the business environment using economic indicators.
- Assess social and cultural barriers that affect businesses operating on an international scale.
- Show basic financial literacy, and types of investment opportunities available to business owners, and explain the relevancy of the stock market.
- Analyze unethical business practices and discuss strategies for remaining ethical within the workplace.
